Small Game Tables – Fun for Everyone

Posted: under Home furniture.

It seems that when most men grow up and move into their own place, whether this is a bachelor pad or maybe a small house or apartment with the wife, they all want a pool table. Its a universally fun game but the problem generally is, a pool table takes up a lot of space, more than many people have. Men, do not let this crush your dream of owning your own pool table. Why not buy a slightly smaller 7 ft. table? Its the same game and does not require as much space, and I would say the wife would probably go for it.

100% Organic Rust Removal – Mending Outdoor Furniture

Posted: under Home furniture.

Outdoor furniture faces harsh elements such as the sun and rain, even rust.  Get the latest in Rust removal products.

When you have outdoor furniture it is to be expected that they will have to face the harsh elements such as the intense heat of the sun and the cold rain showers not to mention spilled food from overeager guests and maybe even smelly accidents from your beloved pets.  However your outdoor furniture pieces are made from durable materials and you hose or wipe off the leaves and stains as part of cleaning up.  Eventually you notice that scrapes and even rust will appear.  Luckily there are now cleaners that are ultimately designed to care for such property and you will notice that they tend to perform better than the standard household cleaning agents.  For instance, if you check the label and you notice the material is similar to a cleaner designed for cleaning your car then you can use that same cleaner on your outdoor furniture.

Rust removal should be done periodically.  Regular attention is required to prevent rust, which left unchecked will definitely eat right through the metal furniture.  Make sure that you do the following: first, you check and inspect frequently particularly at the welded joints.  If you notice that the paint is peeling or reddish rust stains are evident, you can probably sand down the problem area in order to see the bare the metal.  Next, prime the area and then coat it with a metal paint that is rust-resistant.  Make sure that the paint is rated for exterior use.  Then follow it up with car wax.  If we are removing rust particularly from our outdoor furniture, we want to be very attentive that we will not scrape the surface and so we are likely to wipe more slowly as we get rid of the rust.  For example, we do not lay a hand on anything rusty because it is rather tricky to remove once it has tainted your skin or clothing.  There is also a disagreeable smell coupled with rust.  It is also dangerous to breathe in or ingest this form of substance.

At the same time, we are very much aware of the effects of household cleaners on the environment.  The fact that household cleaners are among the major pollutants inside our homes is alarming given that we always use commercial cleaners.  Common cleaning agents have a tendency to contain toxic and harmful chemicals that not only threats our wellbeing but also harms the delicate environment.  We want to clean our household because we value the welfare of every individual living inside but at the same time we agonize that we might throw in to indoor pollution.  Choosing an organic rust remover can certainly be a smart move in protecting the environment.

Developments in science have created cleaning agents from all natural and organic substances that would also shield the person managing it.  Not like the customary cleaners, they do not release harmful and toxic materials that might damage vital organs such as our lungs.  These products are not likely to be carcinogenic or cause other ailments like asthma or aggravate the conditions of those inhabitants who are compromised immune systems.  Rust is the normal effect of oxidation of such elements and so in order to guarantee lasting function of our assets we make efforts to divest them of rust.  With the latest cleaners close by, rust can easily be eliminated without having to scrub vigorously.  To do such a thing might scratch or spoil some precious property.

Rust can be removed easily with the latest line of cleaners and with the understanding that these products are ecologically safe to use, we are certain that our precious metal and iron possessions can continue to be of use to us.  As long as we are equipped with the right product there is no likelihood that we might harm ourselves and the environment.  Your outdoor furniture can be periodically maintained and taken care of by using the right cleaning agent such as an organic rust stain remover.

Quick Meals For Winter

Posted: under Home furniture.

As the leaves begin to fall from the trees and the air outside turns brisk, people begin to crave warm, hardy meals.  These meals can be very time consuming and laborious, but they don’t have to be!  Utilizing your crock pot will allow you to spend your time with things other than cooking and still provide you with a robust homemade meal.  Following are some quick crock pot recipes ideas that are sure to delight your entire family:

Winter Meals With Chicken

Crock pot chicken recipes are healthy and delicious.  Many people forget about chicken when they think of using your crock pot, but cooking chicken dishes is simple.  You have the option of cooking a whole chicken, cut-up chicken or chicken pieces with or without the bone.  Chicken should usually be placed in raw to make sure it stays tender and juicy, but you can pre-cook if you are really pressed for time.  Be careful not to overcook if you decide to brown the chicken in a skillet first or the meat may become dry and/or tough.

No matter what chicken recipe you plan to use, consider marinating the chicken first.  This will add extra flavor to your dish with minimal effort.  Try taking your whole chicken or chicken parts and putting in a sealed baggie filled with Italian dressing over night to create a delectable main course that tastes like you spent hours slaving in the kitchen.  Add the marinade to the crock pot with the chicken when you cook to create a more intense flavor.  Since a crock pot cooks slowly, you can always remove the skin from your chicken to make the dish low fat.  If you get bored with chicken dishes, use other poultry to switch it up.  Turkey, pheasant, and duck are great alternatives.

Winter Meals With Beef

Crock pot beef recipes are always a hit.  Whether you use your crock pot to slow cook an entire roast or rack of ribs or whether you make a wonderful beef stew, you are sure to delight.  Slow cooking beef will ensure it stays tender.  Take your favorite oven cooked roast recipe and try it in the crock pot for meat that will melt in your mouth.  If you are cooking on a tight budget, the crock pot will allow you to make fantastic dishes with cheaper cuts of meat because slow cooking will keep them tender.

If you are in a huge rush for time, buy stew meats that are already cut up.  Forget buying stew in a can when you can create a homemade meal in almost the same prep time.  Anyone can make a wonderful full-bodied crock pot beef stew.  All you have to do is throw in your favorite vegetables (raw, frozen, or even canned), some cubed beef, and some vegetable or meat stock.  Turn the crock pot on and forget about it until you are ready to ladle it out and eat!

To make the meat appear more attractive and to slightly speed up the time it takes to cook, you can lightly brown the meat in a skillet before adding to the crock pot.  This will also cook out some of the fat in the meat making it healthier.  To save even more time in the future, cook the largest roast you can fit in the crock pot.  Divide it up and freeze half of it for an easy main course later.  You can also cut up half to add in a soup or stew for a quick, easy meal later.

Winter Meals With Vegetables

Crock pot vegetarian recipes are simple and quick.  Spicy foods actually raise body temperature, so consider zesty variations of your favorite soups and stews to make them perfect for cold days.  Another way to make vegetarian crock pot dishes more robust is to thicken them with creamed soups and thickeners such as flour and cornstarch.  You may also consider putting them in a blender after they have cooked for a nutritious lasting meal.  Slow cooking is a perfect way to prepare raw vegetable and dried beans because it holds in all the flavor and vitamins without making the foods too mushy.

Most any soup or stew recipe can be easily converted to a vegetarian dish.  Simply take out the meat and any meat product such as stock and replace it with protein rich legumes or meat alternatives such as soy and tofu.  You don’t have to be a vegetarian to enjoy the flavor and nutrition of these dishes.  Vegetarian crock pot recipes are a heart healthy option for all families as the main course or as an appetizer or side dish.  If properly prepared and seasoned, you won’t even miss the meat!

Selling Your Home? Sell Your Landscaping.

Posted: under Home furniture.

Your home’s looking spiffy.  You’ve polished the hardwood floors, painted designer colors and cleared up the clutter.  Outside your front window beyond, your realty sign, a car creeps slowly alongside the curb . . . and continues.  "Hey! Stop!, you think."  "This is a great house!"

In today’s tough, tough, tough real estate market, if your front yard landscaping ideas don’t scream "COME ON IN!" you’re likely to lose an ever diminishing number of buyers to your neighbor, who’s curbside appeal is really appealing!

It used to be that great landscaping would increase the value of a home by about 7% – 15 %.  But with contracts falling through and buyers with good credit unable to qualify for a loan, landscaping has unfortunately become a seller’s "MUST DO!" in order to get buyers through your door.  And it’s not just the front yard, once real estate agents get their clients into your home, if your backyard doesn’t beacon them to sit a while and put their feet up, those coveted buyers may just continue looking until they find a backyard that does.

You wonder how in the world you’ll come up with the necessary $10,000 to $25,000 for landscaping!  Here’s the good news, you can actually spend far less than that and still attract buyers. Assuming that the front of your home has a fresh coat of paint, or is in reasonably attractive shape, there are some smaller less expensive touches that will make a world of difference and won’t break the bank.

Start by making sure your overgrown shrubs are cut back to show off your home’s façade.  Junipers are a "must go".  Flowers are a "must have".  If the lawn is overgrown with weeds and brown polka dots, consider laying down some sod.  It costs about .50 to .60 cents per square foot, so depending on the time of year, for a few hundred dollars you can put down an inviting carpet of green.  If your trees are over grown, trim them back — buyers can be easily scared off because they perceive the trees to be high maintenance.  In fact, just as you cleared up the clutter in your home, clear up the clutter in your yard.  Buyers enjoy clean uncomplicated, yet  intentional design.  Dig a shallow circle around your trees and plant flowers.  Surround them with neutrally colored bark.

Draw attention away from unsightly areas such as fences or fire hydrants by placing eye catching foliage in areas that show off your property’s best features.  Implement the same kinds of ideas to your back yard.  If you have large areas, border them and put down additional bark.  Accent those areas again with decorative potted flowers that you’ll be able to take the pots with your when you move.

If you lack imagination, pick up a magazine from your local hardware store and look at some landscape design pictures for ideas.   Implement a few simple landscaping strategies like these works wonders and will at least get your home seen, if not sold!

The Essentials for a Successful Rock Garden

Posted: under Home furniture.

In rock gardening, as in any other type of gardening, there are certain elemental requirements which must be provided before success is to be achieved.

For the great majority of plants which are suitable for use in a rock garden, there is nothing in the way of cultural peculiarities which may cause the beginner to hesitate. Some subjects, especially among the true alpines, are admittedly difficult to handle, but there is no occasion to try these at the beginning; and even in sections where they may not be grown at all, there are so many others which will do nicely that their absence is not a serious handicap.

As in other types of gardening, so in rock gardening we have taken much of our garden lore from Europe, especially from England. The English climate is entirely different from that in most sections of the United States. So for many years the supposition prevailed that rock gardening was not adapted to American conditions.

The reason for this supposition was that many rock plants and alpines which thrive in the English climate were not so well pleased with the environment they found over here; but no notice was taken of the fact that there are just as many plants suitable for rock-garden work which thrive better in our American climate than they do in England! Adding a conservative outdoor fountain as well can give any rock garden a decidedly unique style.

Many native American plants have been found suitable for rock gardening, and there are hundreds of others not yet procurable through ordinary commercial channels, many of which are gradually becoming available.

Now that we have broken away from the continental apron strings in rock gardening and have really started out for ourselves,  rock gardening may be satisfactorily undertaken in practically all sections of this country, even though the same plants may not be utilized everywhere. As our experience increases, we are grinding out what can and what cannot be grown under our widely differing climatic conditions.

In this connection it may be pointed out that the true alpine plants are native to sections where the growing season is extremely short, usually not over a hundred to a hundred and fifty days. They are to be found in all parts of the world between the timber-line and the snow-line, or so far toward the north or the South Pole that the climate is similar to that of high mountain elevations.

Quite naturally, such plants as these do not feel at home where they are subjected to weeks if not months of hot, dry summer weather. Fortunately, however, plants for the rock garden are not restricted to the alpines.

If there is one thing more than all others which the great majority of rock plants, including not only the true alpines but the many additional varieties suitable for rock work, insist upon having, it is extra good drainage. If the rock garden is artificially built, with a wall water fall and elevated, as it usually is, above the general ground level, good drainage will be assured provided a suitable soil has been used.

For the natural rock garden, to be planted where nature has built the framework of the garden, and there is no additonal adornment of outdoor water features, this should be the first consideration. Often rocks are to be found in abundance where drainage is poor; such a spot, no matter how picturesque it may be, will not make a good site for the rock garden. Under such conditions, good drainage may be provided artificially, but usually only at considerable expense.

As to the soil itself, most alpines and rock plants shun a clay soil; nor do they prefer an extremely sandy soil. The soils to which they are native are composed mostly of decomposed rocks and shale in which the majority of our ordinary garden plants would fare but ill. Some of them insist upon having this type of soil when grown under domesticated conditions, while others are more adaptable.

As is the case with some of our other garden plants, some of the rock plants prefer a lime soil and others an acid-reacting soil, while still others appear to be entirely indifferent. Unless the rock garden is to be constructed on a very generous scale, the matter of soil, while important, is not a serious consideration, for the comparatively small amount required may readily be made to order by the amateur rock gardener.

Improving the look of your Flower Garden

Posted: under Home furniture.

Flowers can give life to any empty space. You can transform your dull yard into something that exudes richness and colors by filling it with wonderful blooms of flowers. All gardeners can attest that gardening is an indeed gratifying hobby. One of the most exciting parts of gardening that makes people be hooked to it is designing the garden. With the word design, we know that this is an art form, which is subjective and dependent of people’s different tastes and preferences.

However, even if garden designing is all a matter of personal taste, there are still general guidelines to follow to ensure that you are able to make a beautiful garden design. If you are new to gardening or have no idea how to design your garden, here are some useful tips to guide you.

The following tips will not solely be for aesthetic purposes but for practical reasons as well. Draw the MapThe first step in garden design is drawing the map of your garden.

Determine the size of the area where you intend to plant your flowers then make a rough sketch of the yard in relation to the plot. Include in your map other aspects of the yard such as existing plants and trees, poles, faucets, and slopes. It is also essential that you observe sun patterns and take note of these so you will know where to place plants that need a full amount of sunlight to thrive.

Select the FlowersOnce you have completed your base map, it is now the time to map out the flowering plants you intend to put in your garden.

This leads to the next step, which involves flower seed selection. With the wide variety of flower species to choose from, it can be quite overwhelming to choose. Of course, it is imperative that you are able to choose flowers that will grow and thrive well in the soil and weather conditions in your garden.

Annuals or perennials?

Just like any gardener, you may find yourself torn between these two types of plants: annuals and perennials. Whether to go with annuals or perennials is just a question of which is more suitable to your needs and attitudes as a gardener.  But it is always a good idea to incorporate both annuals and perennials in your garden. Annual flower seeds provide your garden with a lush of colorful and long-lasting blooms.

Plant them close together and you will be rewarded with a thick cluster of flowers that are surely pleasing to the eyes. Do not forget to include perennials, which after its short duration of bloom remain to be a visually interesting part of your garden with its foliage and textures.

Incorporate the Elements of Design Aside from choosing whether to grow annuals or perennial flower seeds, it will also help to consider the elements of design: color, texture and balance.  ColorThe most prominent element of design is color. This is the first thing that catches the eye when you walk into a garden. Because of this, it is imperative that you are able to choose flowers that will look good together.

To ensure this, use the painting palette as your guide. To achieve a harmonious look for your garden, use a monochromatic pattern (choosing one hue and using it in its different tints and shades) or complementary colors (these are colors that are opposite to each other on the color wheel such as red/green or orange/blue.

For a more dramatic effect, plant contrasting colors next to each other. A pack of wildflower seeds is an efficient way to achieve this effect. This however requires a keen eye for colors so you do not end up with a garden full of clashing colors that are stressful to the eyes.  If you are new in gardening, start with 2 to 3 colors to avoid being overwhelmed with lots of colors.

Your garden has life, which means it will change over time. So expect to see changes in colors and be ready to redesign if the colors do not go well together anymore.

Texture

Another important element of design is texture. Plant texture is not all about the foliage but also about how plants look like in different light or shadow conditions. To accomplish a perfect balance in texture, one-thirds of the flowers should have fine texture and two-thirds should be coarse.

Balance

Balance or symmetry ensures that there is order and proportion in the layout of your garden. To achieve balance in your garden design, consider the mature sizes of the plants you intend to grow. This will help you ensure that you will be able to balance the plants more efficiently.

Layout the Garden

After you finish with the design of the garden, lay it out in your yard by placing strings, pegs and other markers to designate the spaces in the plot. It is a good idea to purchase the flowers you intend to grow in small batches and then experiment with them to see if you have made the right choice in selecting them.

More Tips on Garden Design

·         Plant in curved lines rather in straight rows to make the garden more visually appealing.

·         Add fragrance in your garden by planting sweet smelling perennial flowers like daffodil, lily, hosta and iris.

·         Plant flowers that attract butterflies. Butterflies not only help in pollination but also add color and interest to your already beautiful garden.

·         Give plant sufficient space in between so you do not end up with a cluttered garden.

·         Do not forget to include a place where you can sit. A comfortable chair, bench, or hammock can turn your wonderful garden into a place of relaxation.

·         Include a pathway. This will ensure that you can tend to your plants without needing to wet your feet.  In garden designing, you are the artist and your garden is your canvas. Make a masterpiece by pouring out energy, creativity and passion into it.
